The Mugs Club was formed on 1 Nov 1982.

With 40 founding members it was the intention of having a Social Club within the Modbury Sports Club. Each member paid an amount to join, which entitled them to a pewter mug on which their name was engraved. The mug held a schooner of beer, which was the legal requirement.

Shelves were mounted on the wall behind the bar with the name displayed. Every member received their first drink in their mug free each time they visited the club.

After the 1st year it was decided that money raised by the Mugs Club was to be spent on improvements to the MSC for the benefit of all club members.

The club members used their mugs as a letter box, anyone wanting to leave a message would put a note in the Mugs mug, this is how the club was officially named (Mugs Club).

Some of the improvements amounted to $1,000s of dollars including the front verandah roof, all the concrete sealing and BBQ built and connected to the gas main, seating, lighting, trophy cabinet for Junior football, curtains in Members lounge, seating in Members lounge, just to mention a few.

Functions over the years included a trip to the Pokies, trip to Broken Hill races, Seppelts Field, crabbing at Pt Clinton, Christmas dinner in Members lounge, Kids Xmas parties, Family days, treasure hunt for kids and a country & western dance.

The Mugs Club cooks tea every Wednesday evening at the club for all member at a small charge.
